Older adults who are coping with both depression and medical illnesses are a population at very high risk for loss of independence, re-hospitalization, permanent nursing home admissions, and higher rates of mortality. Adequate screening for geriatric depression is a considerable problem. This study compared the Geriatric Depression Scale (GDS) with a newer depression screen, the Beck Depression InventoryRTM FastScreen for medical patients (BDIRTM-FS), in a sample of 50 geriatric medical rehabilitation inpatients. Results showed a significant, positive correlation between the GDS and the BDIRTM-FS scores. Differences between total scores on the two depression measures were not related to age, gender, or ethnicity. Future research should examine assessment of depression in a variety of settings, with different geriatric populations, and address whether the use of geriatric depression screens impact clinical outcomes.

Ein Weblog ist eine Form einer Website, die schneller, interaktiver, aktueller, authentischer, vernetzter, bunter und zudem leichter zu erstellen und zu pflegen ist als eine „normale“ Website. Meist auf Basis freier Software, entsteht eine neue unabhängige Medienform, welche die klassischen Medien ergänzt. Die vorliegende Arbeit befasst sich mit der Konzeption und Realisation eines Weblogs für die Medizinisch-Wissenschaftliche Bibliothek (MWB) Mannheim. Dabei sollen alle relevanten Aspekte, welche zur Planung und deren technischen Umsetzung gehören, behandelt werden. Bei der Konzeption werden Vorüberlegungen und Planungen angestellt. Die Realisation beschreibt und dokumentiert die reale technische Umsetzung und Implementierung des Weblogs in das Internetangebot der MWB Mannheim. Ziel der Arbeit ist die Überführung der bisherigen „Aktuelles“-Seite der MWB-Website in einen Weblog verbunden mit einer qualitativen Erweiterung des Dienstes mit dem Ergebnis einen Weblog mit optimaler Funktionalität und Layout für die MWB zu schaffen. Dabei gliedert sich diese Arbeit zunächst in allgemeine Untersuchungen über die Ausgangssituation der MWB Mannheim und den Stand der Technik im Bereich Weblogs. Anschließend wird exemplarisch am Beispiel der MWB Mannheim auf die theoretische Konzeption, sowie die praktische Umsetzung eines Weblogs eingegangen. Ein kurzer Softwarevergleich soll die verschiedenen Möglichkeiten vorstellen, wie ein Weblog einzurichten ist. Methodisch soll sowohl theoretisch, praktisch und technisch, als auch bibliothekarisch an dieses Projekt herangegangen werden. Dabei werden Fachliteratur und elektronische Quellen ausgewertet. Als im Jahre 2004 der Verfasser dieser Arbeit mit dem Begriff „Weblogs“ in Kontakt kam, gab es wenig deutsche Fachliteratur zu diesem Thema. Im Laufe des Jahres 2005 und während der Bearbeitungszeit dieser Arbeit erschienen mehrere deutschsprachige Bücher, die sich mit den Themen Weblogs, Newsfeeds, der Veränderung im Medienbereich durch Technologien wie Weblogs, und sogar mit einzelner Weblogsoftware befassen. Des weiteren werden bereits bestehende Weblogs untersucht um Anregungen zu erhalten. Auch ein Vergleich der Weblogsoftware ist Teil der Arbeit. Dieser wird mit einer Testinstallation abgeschlossen um das Funktionieren des Weblogs zu gewährleisten. Im Fachbereich Information und Kommunikation der HdM Stuttgart gab bis zu Beginn der Bearbeitungszeit dieser Arbeit keine andere Diplomarbeit, die sich mit dem Thema Weblogs und Bibliotheken beschäftigt. Daher besteht ein Erkenntnisinteresse sowohl von Seiten der HdM Stuttgart, als auch von der MWB Mannheim, das durch diese Ar-beit befriedigt werden soll. Außerdem ist das Thema dieser Arbeit für andere Bibliothe-ken relevant und schließt die Forschungslücke im Bereich Weblogs und Bibliotheken. Die Schwerpunkte dieser Arbeit liegen sowohl im praktischen Teil der Arbeit, als auch im theoretischen Teil. Der eingerichtete Weblog ist unter der Internetadresse http://www.ma.uni-heidelberg.de/apps/bibl/mwbnews/ veröffentlicht. Gang der Untersuchung: In dieser Arbeit werden alle relevanten Fragen, die sich bei der Konzeption und Realisation eines Weblogs stellen, untersucht. Dies wird konkret am Beispiel der Medizinisch-Wissenschaftlichen Bibliothek Medizinisch-Wissenschaftlichen Bibliothek (MWB) Mannheim dargestellt, für die ein Weblog geplant und technisch umgesetzt wird. Die vorliegende Arbeit gliedert sich in Vorüberlegung, Planung und Implementierung des Weblogs auf den Webserver der MWB Mannheim. Der erste Teil dieser Arbeit beschreibt die Ausgangssituation der MWB Mannheim und deren Ziel, ihre bisherige News-Seite durch einen Weblog zu ersetzen und qualitativ zu verbessern. Des weiteren werden der Stand der Technik im Bereich Weblogs erläutert und wesentliche Themen, wie die Einsatzmöglichkeiten eines Weblogs beleuchtet. Im zweiten Teil konzentriert sich die Arbeit auf alle nötigenden Vorüberlegungen bei der Planung eines Weblogs und auf die Konzeption des Weblogs für die MWB Mannheim. Ein Softwarevergleich stellt die verschiedenen Möglichkeiten, wie man Weblogs einrichten kann, vor. Der dritte Teil schließlich beschreibt und dokumentiert die technischen Umsetzung, d.h. die Implementierung des Weblogs, mit der Weblogsoftware WordPress, in das Internetangebot der MWB. Abstract: Using the example of medical library (MWB) Mannheim, for which a weblog was planned and created, this thesis examines the important questions concerning the conception and realization of a weblog. The essay is structured according to the various steps of preliminary conceptualization, detailed planning and, finally, implementation of the weblog on the webserver of MWB Mannheim. The first part of the thesis discusses the existing state of the MWB Mannheim, its aim to replace the previous news-page with a weblog and improve it qualitative. Further-more, the current technological development of weblogs and the applicatitions of a we-blog are analysed. The second part focuses on all preliminary discussions for the planning of a weblog and the conception of a weblog for the MWB Mannheim. A comparison of different soft-ware underlines the various possibilities of implementing weblogs. A third and final section describes the technical implementation of the weblog, i.e. its integration, with the weblogsoftware WordPress, into the website of the MWB. The continetal flood thoeliitic volcanism from the Paraná-Angola-Namibia was one of the most important events which has affected the Gondwanaland during the Mesozoic times. Associated with it in space, and sometimes in time, the alkaline magmatism is another relevant feature of pre-, syn- and post-Gondwana break-up in the region. Since the last century the alkaline magmatism from the Paraná-Angola-Namibia system has being the subject of many investigations which aim to enhance the knowledge of its different aspects, such as its genesis and evolution. However, most of these studies consist of isolated efforts restricted to relatively small portions of the area. The necessity of a better understanding of the relationships between the alkaline and alkaline-carbonatic magmatism relative to the Gondwana evolution led Brazilian (C. B. Gomes and collaborators) and Italian (P. Comin-Chiaramonti and collaborators) researchers to elaborate this volume.
